Women’s Guide for Car Buying

by Dennis on January 20, 2007

Let the dealer beware! Today’s women make up a greater percentage of new car purchasers. Not only do they account for quite a bit of the new car sales market they can also be some of the cleverest negotiators around. In fact, they usually will walk out with greater savings that many men because they are geared to looking for bargains before they will buy. So, with this in mind if you’re woman who has yet to shop and buy a new car here are some great tips and information that will help you when you’re ready to go out and buy a new car.

Its no secret that knowledge is power so by educating yourself about shopping and buying a car will help you across the board when you actually buy the first time.

Tip One – Stay up and be informed

You can do research on the internet about on a car you currently own and want to trade for a new one. Find out about any rebates and special low interest rates available on models you have an interest in. You may also even find dealer invoices which lets you know what a dealer paid for a certain car even before you visit them to purchase.

Tip Two- Decide what you want

Even before you actually visit the dealership, you can decide what model you want to purchase and its features you want such as its body style, color and the price you want to pay before you visit a dealer’s showroom. New car dealers will often time try to sell you a vehicle they want you to buy rather than what you want or need. It’s a good plan to have 2 or 3 vehicles on your list you like, as that flexibility goes a long way toward getting the most value for your money in a car.

Tip Three- Never Impulse Buy

Don’t get emotional void impulse buying when purchasing a vehicle. Never let the salesperson know just how much you want a specific vehicle. This will give the sales person an edge for dealing you don’t want them to have.

Tip Four- Consider Long Term Maintenance Costs

How much are annual maintenance costs? Example sure those sporty wheels and tires look cool now, but can you afford the cost to replace them when the time comes? Specialty items not only cost you more when you buy them but they also cost more when they need replaced.

Tip Five- Check out Insurance Rates

It’s always a good move to check with your agent regarding insurance costs of the new car you want to buy. You may find that while you can afford the monthly payment, the extra cost of insurance will be more total payment than you can really afford.

Tip Six- Don’t Assume the Salesman Is On Your Side

Just like you want to save on your purchase, the salesman is really working on getting the top price they can for the car. The more the sell it for the more they make. Sure we hope the sales people a friendly but just like you they want to make the best deal they can for themselves just like you.

Tip Seven- Save Time and Money

You will be way ahead of the game so to speak if you go to your personal bank or other sources like credit unions you use to get your financing arranged. More than likely you will receive a lower interest rate at your personal financial institution than through the Dealer you buy from.
